Using the library
Each class teacher borrows a selection of books from the library for their class book corner and to support the topics currently being taught.
All the children have a timetabled library session each week. Nursery to Year 6 borrow one book each which they take out themselves using the book and thumbprint scanners. (The actual thumb print image is not stored on the computer. The software calculates a huge number from the image and it is the number itself which is stored. The number cannot be used to re-construct the original image.) They are also learning to search for, reserve and review books on the computer. Our stock and donationsWe are constantly buying new books to replace some of the older ones. Parents can help by buying their books through various book clubs. At our Scholastic book club, we earn a voucher worth
20% of what’s spent for the school to buy new books for the library. The website address is http://clubs.scholastic.co.uk/sl . We also run a www.myschoolbookclub.co.uk. Parents register and can order books online and again the school benefits from a commission which can be used for new books for the library. We collect “Box Tops for schools” from Nestle cereals and any other current vouchers! Children donate “Birthday books” to the library. Once a year we have a book fair selling a wide variety of books for all ages to pupils and enabling the library to raise money to replace a lot of old favourites and buy new titles . |
Accelerated readerYears 2 to 6 use Accelerated Reader to support and motivate thier reading. AR helps each child to choose books at an appropriate level and then earn certificates by gaining points on the quizzes taken after reading each book. Parents can follow their child’s progress by looking at the website and entering their child’s username and password.
Library ClubLibrary club is on Thursday for Years 3 to 6 and is run by parent volunteers.
Our Librarian
